What We Do In Meraki

With Meraki we hold true to certain goals.

We are always learning, revising and searching for the deeper truths in our folk culture. Understanding of our historical traditions evolves and so should the practice of these traditions. Our instructor teaches material as best as he understands with the openness of revision as his knowledge deepens through research in Greece, collaborating with other instructors and hosting master instructors for workshops.

We strive to interact with the historical dance and music traditions as authentically as possible. Connecting the individual to the community, the community to the dance and the dance to the music holds an important interactive utility. These traditions served a purpose more than just entertainment. There was utility in the act of a community coming together to share and celebrate individual joys for various occasions. There is also the communal act of empathy through sharing of sorrows and tragedies. Communal catharsis through human connection and movement is our ultimate goal.

We are currently building dance and music groups for all ages.
